Bio
Kylee Alexander is an American fashion designer specializing in fur design, conceptual womenswear and traditional craftsmanship. Kylee received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a focus in fashion design and textiles, and began her career by working as a studio assistant for the visual artist Nick Cave. Kylee Alexander is a Lecturer in Fashion Design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago teaching undergraduate studies, as well as instructing fashion design and construction courses for the Early College Program and Adult Continuing Education programs at SAIC. In 2017, Kylee founded her eponymous label, which focuses on developing conceptual womenswear fashion and fur collections with a focus on sustainability, commitment to craftsmanship, and using fur to create original textile designs. In addition, she is also a cofounder of She Makes Chicago and is dedicated to improving the landscape for creative entrepreneurship within her city.
MISSiON
Kylee Alexander’s namesake label is committed to sustainability, craftsmanship and empowerment as paramount tenants of its mission to create intentionally designed womenswear in an effort to shift the paradigm of luxury in a contemporary fast fashion society. Emphasizing slow fashion and artisanal processes, Kylee works to integrate meaning and making to increase the attributed value of clothing and reject current models of cyclical fashion and garment waste. Through investigation and experimentation into sustainable design practices as well as research dedicated to the conscious selection of materials, each collection is developed with integrity and responsibility to ethical production standards at its core. Equally dedicated to the preservation of tradition and history of making, Kylee actively cultivates craft and technique through mentorship, collaboration and partnership allowing for the expansion of knowledge through craftsmanship reflected in her work. Invested in redesigning the construct of luxury, Kylee unifies themes of empowerment and identity by embracing handmade aesthetics, small batch production and feminine sensibility to create clothing with conscience under a heritage label.
